George E. Butterfield collection.

This collection consists of various materials of George E. Butterfield, dating from 1922-1971, and arranged in four series. The first series, administrative subject files as dean (1922-1957), contains primarily records which were either generated or received by Butterfield while Dean of Bay City Junior College (BCJC) from 1926-1949. The second series, administrative subject files as trustee (1950-1971), consists primarily of files generated or accumulated by Butterfield while on the Tri-County College/Delta College Board of Trustees, 1957-1966. The third series, alumni of Bay City Junior College (1922-1953), provides name access to graduates of BCJC, alphabetically by surname, chronologically by year of graduation, or by geographic location, as of 1953. The fourth series, photographs, ca. 1920-1940, includes b&w photos of BCJC faculty, students, and school activities.

George E. Butterfield was born Dec. 28, 1883, in Bay City, Mich. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Michigan. He served as principal of Reigal, Park, and McKinley Schools, and taught at Eastern High School. He became dean of Bay City Junior College, a position he held for 23 years until his retirement in 1949.
